Kapil Sibal (Punjabi: ਕਪਿਲ ਸਿਬਲ, Hindi: कपिल सिब्बल; born 8 August 1948) is an Indian politician. A renowned lawyer, he has been at the helm of various ministries in the Congress lead UPA government over the years – beginning with the Ministry of Science & Technology, then the Ministry of Human Resource Development and currently he is in charge of both the Ministry of Communications & IT, and the Ministry of Law & Justice in the First Manmohan Singh Cabinet.

Born in Jalandhar, Sibal has been the additional solicitor General of India between 1989 and 1990. He held several key posts in the Government of India, such as President of Supreme Court Bar Association of India (1995-98 and 2001-2002), Indo-US Parliamentary Forum Co-chairman (2002) and Programme Board of the Bill Melinda Gates Foundation's Indian AIDS initiative member (2003). Sibal was the first Indian Minister to have traveled to the icy continent of Antarctica and stayed at the Maitri base in sub-zero temperatures, for getting a first hand experience about the hardships being faced by the Indian scientists.
