In 2007, he was elected general secretary of the Kerala Congress. He won the 2009 Lok Sabha election from the Kottayam constituency, by a margin of more than 70000 votes over Suresh Kurup of Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI(M)). Jose K Mani was elected to the Lok Sabha for the first time in 2009 from the Kottayam Constituency. Among the country's younger parliamentarians, he is a native of Pala in Kottayam District, Kerala. As a representative of Kottayam district he gives top priority to working among his constituents and on the all-round development of his district.His other main area of focus is youth empowerment. He is committed to inculcating a sense of social and political responsibility among the youth in rural and semi urban Kerala.
